In this park there are many Javalina or Collared Peccaries most commonly seen morning and evening eating grass or bird seed if prickly pear cactus is not in flower.

Picnicking
Bentsen Rio Grande Valley State Park offers picnic tables and grills, perfect for family outings. No alcohol is allowed in the park.
Bicycling
Cycling is a popular activity, with over 7 miles of paved roads available for exploration. Be aware that no off-road biking is allowed.

Bike rentals are offered at the park's headquarters if you don't have your own equipment. Always check availability beforehand to avoid disappointment.

The trails offer scenic views and opportunities to spot wildlife but can be challenging due to heat or uneven terrain - stay hydrated and cautious!

Remember: cycling after dark isn't permitted; plan accordingly so as not get caught out when sunset approaches.

Lastly, always adhere strictly to all safety guidelines provided by the park authorities for an enjoyable experience.
Birding
The park is a renowned birdwatching site, home to over 360 species including the Green Jay. Other notable birds include Altamira Oriole and Plain Chachalaca. The Hawk Tower offers views of migrating raptors like Gray Hawks. Visitors can also spot rare Hook-billed Kites here.
