Camden Hills State Park signature location is the scenic vista high atop Mt. Battie where sweeping views of Camden, Penobscot Bay, and surrounding islands await. On a clear day, visitors can see Cadillac Mountain at Acadia National Park. Mt. Megunticook, the highest of the Camden Hills - and highest peak on the mainland - is a moderate climb by foot trail.

The park is located a few minutes north of Camden, a quintessential New England town featuring shops that are within walking distance to the working harbor. Harbor cruises, whale and puffin watches are available daily.

Summer nights spent under the stars is a recipe for family fun. Campers who stay at the park's campground enjoy the comfort stations that are equipped with hot showers. A popular fall activity for hundreds of visiting leaf peepers is to drive up the Mt. Battie Auto Road and view the surrounding hillside of fall foliage color.

Picnicking
1. Camden Hills State Park offers numerous picnic spots with stunning views of Penobscot Bay.
2. Picnic tables and grills are available for use in designated areas.
3. Enjoy a scenic meal at the top of Mount Battie, accessible by car or hiking trail.
4. The park's large group shelter can be reserved for family gatherings or events.
5. Pack your own food as there aren't any on-site dining options within the park boundaries.

Bicycling
Biking enthusiasts can explore the multi-use trails, ideal for mountain biking. Be aware of hikers sharing these paths.

The park's terrain varies from moderate to challenging; beginners should proceed with caution on difficult tracks.

Riding off designated bike routes is not permitted - it protects local flora and fauna while ensuring your safety too.

Always wear a helmet when cycling in this area as some sections may be rocky or steeply inclined.

During winter months, certain trails are closed due to snowfall so check ahead before planning any rides during that period.

Remember: respect nature by leaving no trace behind - carry out all trash you bring into the park.
Birding
The park offers diverse bird species, including warblers and hawks. Birdwatchers can explore multiple trails for different sightings. The Megunticook Trail is popular among enthusiasts due to its variety of birds. Bald eagles are often spotted near the ocean lookout points in winter months.

Visitor Comments, Memories and Reviews
August 29 Great park but campground is not good by WolfandJan_M
park review stars; one to five The location of this park is great and the many challenging hiking trails are wonderful. But the campground is overall the worst state park campground weve stayed in for years. It feels old and poorly maintained. The water has been under a must boil alert for months but I couldnt find a mention of that on their site. Half of the s showers are out of service. The rest are dirty and dont allow you to regulate the temperature. Our camping site is very tight and completely unlevel. We would not recommend this campground.
August 22 A romantic view by mystified
park review stars; one to five There is nothing i love more than to look over the harbor. Camden offers a wonderful dining experience and quaint harbor viewing. Mount Battie has spectacular views, great shopping, wonderful art museums and the air or romance all around.
November 21 Great view from the top of Mt. Battie
