Over Labor Day weekend 2009(Sept) we drove up to the north entrance and came in that way. It took us 2 hours to travel a little over 17 miles so four-wheel drive is strongly recommended. We camped(dispersed) for free at Desert Pass. There are three vault toilets and enough campsites(firering, table, & tentpad for three individual families. We brought our own wood but found out that we arrived that fire restrictions were in place until Oct 1st so we had no campfire and only used our propane stove that we brought for cooking. It was a very nice escape from Las Vegas and we really felt alone and forgotten! Driving out we came across eight other jeeps & trucks heading up on Labor Day. The road is only a two-track and really not enough room to allow travel both ways. The road, Mormon Well Road is not a one-way affair but most people treat it that way. But we really enjoy the solitude once we leave the back-top highways. And just looking for a free place to camp where it is cool during the hot summer months, Desert Pass along the Mormon Well Road is always a pleasureable trip. Bumpy but nice!
