| State Park Overview: |
 | General Burnside Island State Park was named for the sideburn-whiskered Civil War general Ambrose Burnside. Burnside led patrols along the Cumberland River, circling this 400-acre island while on the look out for Confederate soldiers.
Today, the waters of Lake Cumberland are more placid; it's a peaceful retreat for campers, boaters, golfers and fishermen alike. A marina near the park has all the supplies you'll need for a great day on the lake, and the campground is the perfect home base for outdoor adventure. The biggest challenge to visitors these days may be the 18-hole golf course; it's fun, but certainly not hazard-free! |
