| State Park Overview: |
 | Feel the serenity of gliding across the water powered only by the wind. Or motor across the lake, dock your boat next to the Resort Lodge and enjoy a sumptuous meal in luxury surroundings.
Enjoy your early mornings in one of the cabins, listening to the birds. Or sip that first cup of coffee by a campfire. Or open a thermos after you've found the perfect spot for the day's fishing.
Wake up with a round of golf, a tennis match, or laps in the swimming pool. Or simply sun the morning away.
Stroll along the landscaped banks of Wheeler Lake. You might see deer or an eagle or much more of the wildlife so abundant at Joe Wheeler State Park.
Located in Northwest Alabama, 2 miles west of Rogersville, off U.S. Highway 72. The Park is approximately 50 miles west of Huntsville, Alabama and 27 miles east of Florence, Alabama. Interstate 65 and Athens, Alabama are 22 miles east of the park. |

| Camping: |
| Our campground is a favorite among campers and features large level sites among towering pines. We have 116 campsites in our improved campground. 110 sites have full hook-ups, which includes water, electric and sewage hook-ups. Joe Wheeler also has a primitive campground for those who prefer a little more ?roughing it?. These guests however do have access to use the bathhouse located in the adjacent C loop of the campground. These sites do not have electrical hook-ups, but water hydrants are located in this area.
Each loop in the campground has a modern bathhouse with hot showers. Our staff cleans bathhouses daily and we ourselves pride in their cleanliness.
We do accept reservations for improved sites, but we do not reserve individual sites. You may make a reservation by calling 1-800-ALA-PARK or 256-247-1184. We require a one-night deposit to hold a reservation. This will guarantee you have a site when you arrive.
We strive to run a safe family oriented campground. Law enforcement rangers and security personnel make regular patrols. We have a security gate for the park that is manned from 10PM until 6AM and only registered guests are allowed into the park during these hours.

| Picnicking: |
| Joe Wheeler?s day use picnic facilities include large picnic pavilions, a sandy beach swimming area, tennis courts, basketball courts, horseshoe pits, large open playing field and ample shoreline for bank fisherman. A limited amount of recreational equipment is available for checkout. Trailheads are also located in this area with trails that wind through the park and along the shoreline. The setting for the day use area is in a cove off of the main Tennessee River. It is a very picturesque spot that offers fantastic river views. It is within walking distance of our campground. |
| Fishing and Hunting: |
| Wheeler Reservoir is located in north central Alabama half way between Birmingham and Nashville. Alabama's second largest is one of TVA's lakes and stretches 60 miles from Guntersville Dam to Wheeler Dam near Rogersville. The upper end of the reservoir is a run-of-the-river reservoir as it goes past Huntsville and begins spreading out near Decatur. Stump flats, weed beds, and creek channels are popular locations in the middle section. The lower end has many steep banks and long points. More Information.
For more information about fishing in the freshwaters of Alabama, including license and regulations, go to the Official Alabama Fishing Web Page. |

Joe Wheeler Lodge underwent a major renovation in the winter of 1998 and all of the rooms and facilities are top-notch.
