Jones Beach State Park's top attraction has always been swimming. The park offers fine surf bathing along 6.5 miles of ocean beach, one-half mile of bay beach for stillwater bathing, and two swimming pools.
Swimming
1. Jones Beach State Park offers two miles of oceanfront beach for swimming.
2. The park has a half-mile long bay beach specifically designed for still water bathing.
3. Lifeguards are on duty during summer months to ensure swimmer safety at both beaches.
4. Swimming is only allowed when lifeguards are present, typically from late June through Labor Day.
5. There's also the West Bathhouse pool and East Bathhouse pool available with an additional fee required per person.
6. The pools offer locker rooms, showers and concession stands nearby providing convenience to swimmers.

Boating
Located in Wantagh, New York, this park offers a variety of boating options. The Zach's Bay is perfect for leisurely boat rides while the West End 2 area allows personal watercraft and sailboarding. There are also several marinas nearby such as Field 10 where visitors can launch their own boats or rent one from local vendors. Kayaking and paddle boarding opportunities are available too with rentals offered on-site during summer months.
Fishing
Enjoy surfcasting for species like striped bass, bluefish and fluke along the 6.5-mile oceanfront coastline. Alternatively, try fishing in Zachs Bay for weakfish or winter flounder from April to December. The West End's Field 10 is a popular spot among anglers targeting black fish and sea bass.

Picnicking
Jones Beach State Park offers designated picnic areas with tables and grills. No alcohol or glass containers are allowed.
Bicycling
Bicycling is permitted on the 5-mile Ellen Farrant Memorial Bikeway, but be mindful of pedestrians and rollerbladers.

The bike path offers scenic views; however, it can get crowded during peak times.

Cyclists should wear helmets for safety as some sections are shared with vehicles.

Riders under age 14 must have a helmet by law - ensure your child's protection while enjoying the ride.

Remember to bring water bottles along since biking in summer heat could lead to dehydration quickly.

Be aware that there aren't any bicycle rentals available within park boundaries so plan accordingly before visiting.

Locks are recommended if you're planning stops at beach areas or concessions stands due to potential theft risk.

Night-time cycling isn't allowed because paths lack adequate lighting which may cause accidents after sunset hours.

Please note: Bikes cannot be ridden on boardwalks or pedestrian walkways - stick strictly to designated bikeways only!
Birding
Birding enthusiasts can explore the West End and Coast Guard Station areas for diverse bird species. The Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center offers guided tours, while spring migration is particularly rewarding at this location. Birders might spot shorebirds, waterfowl, raptors or songbirds depending on the season.
Area Attractions
The west end of the park provides wonderful surf fishing, a boat basin, undeveloped areas that are home to a variety of migratory birds and native plants and the Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center which includes environmental displays about the seashore, educational tours and programs for every age group. Jones Beach has a two mile boardwalk and a "Castles in the Sand" photo collection at the East Bathhouse which depicts the development of the Long Island State Park and parkway systems. Some of the additional attractions include deck games and miniature golf.

Visitor Comments, Memories and Reviews
April 15 Helping Forgetful Visitors by Josephine_O
park review stars; one to five The terrific staff at Field 4 Park Information office gave me and my family sunscreen this Thursday when we all forgot our lotion at home. The staff was considerate, helpful and kind. I felt truly blessed and my family got to enjoy our beach day burn free.

park review stars; one to five the new extentions to the handicapped boardwalk are great now we can get all the way up to the water... have not been able to see the water in years. It is greatly appreciated
May 28 Really an error in judgment by bob
park review stars; one to five We have been going to the West End for over 30 years. It is the one unpoiled spot on the beach. In a tough economy, it is also the one place folks can go without worrying as much about damage to their budget. Yet, without any public hearing whatsoever, the Commissioner of Parks (or whomever made the decision) closed it down. How much was actually saved?
