Lake St. George State Park is located 16 miles west of Belfast and 25 miles west of Augusta on the northwest shore of the beautiful Lake St. George. State Route 3 ran parallel and close to the lake, which was originally part of a farmstead. The centerpiece of the park is Lake St. George itself. Some of the park's campsites are located right on the shoreline where a morning cup of coffee can be enjoyed while watching the sun rise over the crystal clear water.

Loons are frequent visitors and their signature call can often be heard at night. The lake is 1,017 acres and numerous undeveloped islands dot the main basin of the lake. Fishing for landlocked salmon and brook trout is a popular sport, and visitors can rent canoes or boats to explore the park's undeveloped shoreline.

The day-use area is a short walk from the camping area where picnic tables and grills are available close to the beach. A lifeguard is on duty. The day-use area has swings, volleyball, basketball, and a sandpit where younger children play. Three to five miles of hiking trails are within walking distance from the campground.
Swimming
1. Lake Saint George State Park offers a designated swimming area on the lake's pristine, clear waters.
2. Lifeguards are not typically present at the park.
3. The sandy beach is perfect for sunbathing and building sandcastles before or after swimming.
4. Canoeing and kayaking options also exist if you prefer to swim from your boat in deeper water areas.
5. Swimming lessons aren't offered by the state park service but independent instructors may offer them privately nearby.
6. The picnic area near the beach makes it easy to enjoy a meal between swims.
7. Pets are allowed within certain sections of this public space, excluding beaches/swimming areas during summer months.

Boating
The park offers a variety of boating options for visitors. Canoe, kayak and paddle boat rentals are available at the concession area during summer months. There is also a public boat launch site that can accommodate motorized boats for those who bring their own equipment. Fishing enthusiasts will find ample opportunities to cast off from both shore or watercraft as well.
Fishing
Anglers can enjoy fishing in a clear, spring-fed lake teeming with landlocked salmon and brook trout. Other species include white perch, pickerel, smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Ice fishing is also popular during the winter months for those seeking an adventurous experience.

Visitor Comments, Memories and Reviews
August 22 perfect choice
park review stars; one to five Friendly workers, well patrol for alone camper, hot showers, great swimming!
August 21 Lousy Campground - Go Elsewhere
park review stars; one to five I absolutely hated this place. Campsites jam packed together, but the real problem is that this place is located next to State Highway Rte 3. The sounds of trucks and motorcycles is relentless both day and night. And from what I could tell, that goes for pretty much every campsite at the place. Just a terrible location
July 7 Refreshing! by Maine Lover
park review stars; one to five We happened upon this lake just by chance as we were traveling back roads. The grounds were clean except for some smelly goose poop. The bath house was clean and spacious. The lake itself was most refreshing! Great place for kids and adults alike. Lots of shade and plenty of picnic areas for those wanting to spend the day.
