August 24 Our first family vacation by Mrs. M. C. Gillespie

My husband and honeymooned here in 6-07. We brought our sons ages 9 and 13 here for our vacation. Getting away from the noise of the capital city was such a relief. So quiet, so peaceful, so clean and green. I am certain it is the first of many wonderful weeks spent getting back to our Mountaineer roots. My eldest son is autistic, so we have to consider his needs when picking a vacation site. This fits the bill for serene beauty with family oriented activities, entrenched in history, beautiful and comfortable cabins, we had a rustic cabin with a fireplace. It allowed the kids to roast marshmellows and make Smores, and gave the adults a warm fire to enjoy after the kids were tucked in bed. Lost river has all the ingredients for a family vacation. It is a definite tradition now for my family.
