State Park Overview:
McLain State Park is situated in the heart of the Keweenaw Peninsula on beautiful Lake Superior and is centrally located between the cities of Calumet and Hancock. The park offers two miles of sand beach on Lake Superior. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of activities in the park: fishing, windsurfing, berry picking, beachcombing, rock hounding, sight-seeing and hunting. The sunsets at McLain State Park are spectacular and the view of the lighthouse is magnificent.

Worth a visit all year
I enjoy walking (or snow shoeing!) through the park at all times of the year and make a point of visiting at least once during our visits from England, about every six months or so.

Area Attractions:
The park's location between Calumet and Hancock makes a fine base for visitors to visit attractions such as abandoned shafthouses, tram cars, "poor rock" piles and ghost towns. Visitors of the Keweenaw are invited to explore the newly created "Keweenaw National Historic Park," which has preserved relics from the days when "Copper was King!"
