MOUNT RIGA STATE PARK
Mount Riga State Park is a serene, 276-acre park known for its hiking trails and picturesque views. It features the highest point in CT, Mount Frissell's south slope at 2,380 feet. The area boasts lush greenery during summer months while winter offers snow-covered landscapes ideal for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. Visitors can also enjoy fishing on nearby lakes and streams.

History of the Area
Located in Salisbury, Connecticut, the park was established in 1919. It covers over 276 acres of land and includes Mount Frissell's south slope. The area is known for its iron industry history from the mid-18th to late-19th century. In addition to historical significance, it offers outdoor activities like hiking and bird watching with a variety of trails available.

Passes
Connecticut has made state parks, forests, trails, historic sites and beaches more accessible to our residents so they can enjoy the many attractions and beauty they offer. Under the Passport to the Parks program, parking fees are now eliminated at Connecticut State Parks for those with Connecticut registered vehicles. Trails
- Undermountain Trail: A challenging 6-mile trail that ascends Bear Mountain, the highest peak in Connecticut. Features include steep inclines and panoramic views of Mount Riga State Park.

- Appalachian Trail Section: This is a part of the famous long-distance hiking route which passes through Mt. Riga for about 7 miles; it offers diverse terrain from flat paths to rocky climbs with scenic overlooks.

- Sages Ravine Trail: Approximately one mile long, this path follows along a beautiful brook filled with waterfalls before connecting to the Appalachian trail at its end point near Massachusetts border.

- Paradise Lane Loop via Undermountain and AT Trails: An approximately five-mile loop offering varied landscapes including forests, streams and meadows as well as opportunities for wildlife spotting such as deer or birds species native to area.

- Race Brook Falls Trailhead - Lower & Upper Falls Hike : About three miles round trip hike featuring two stunning waterfall sections on Race Brook Creek within dense forest setting; can be slippery during wet conditions so caution advised.

-Bear Mountain Summit Via The Northwest Ridge Route : Roughly four-miles out-and-back trek leading hikers up rugged northwest ridge towards summit providing breathtaking vistas across Taconic Mountains range especially during fall foliage season

-Mount Frissell South Slope (Connecticut Highpoint)Trail : Short but strenuous half-a-mile uphill climb reaching state's high-point located not on mountain top itself but rather southward slope overlooking surrounding valleys

-Salisbury Twin Lakes Pathway - Lake Washinee And Lake Washining Circuit Walkabout : Gentle six-miles circuit around twin lakes ideal for family outings showcasing serene lake scenery interspersed by occasional picnic spots

Directions
From New York City:
- Head north on I-95.
- Take exit 21 for White Plains/Port Chester towards I-287 W.
- Merge onto Westchester Ave.

Continue to CT -22 in North Castle, NY:
-Take the Interstate 684 N exit from Hutchinson River Pkwy N.

Drive to Mt Riga Rd in Salisbury, Connecticut:
-Follow CT -22 and US -44 E/NY-55E
-Merge with Mount Washington Road/Mount Riga road
