VICTORIA BRYANT STATE PARK
Nestled in the rolling hills of Georgia?s upper piedmont, this is one of northern Georgia?s best kept secrets. A beautiful stream flows through the park, providing the perfect setting for an after-picnic stroll. Hikers can follow either the short nature trail or the longer perimeter trail that winds through hardwoods and crosses creeks. Animal lovers should keep an eye out for wildlife while passing food plots along the perimeter trail. Golfers will enjoy Highland Walk Golf Course with clubhouse, golf pro, unlimited weekday play and junior/senior discounts.
Located in Franklin County, the land now known as Victoria Bryant State Park was originally inhabited by Native American tribes. European settlers later used it for agriculture and timber production due to its fertile soil and forested landscape.
In 1953, the park was established through a donation from Dr. Louise McBee in memory of her aunt Victoria Slaton Bryant. The initial acreage has since expanded to encompass over 500 acres featuring rolling hills and streams.
Historical features within the area include remnants of early settler life such as old homesteads, farming structures, and cemeteries that dot the countryside around Royston where prominent figures like Ty Cobb were born.
Facilities have been added including cottages for lodging; picnic shelters; hiking trails; a golf course designed by Georgia native Robert Trent Jones Sr.; an archery range; fishing areas along Beaverdam Creek's banks which is stocked with trout seasonally by state wildlife officials.
The park continues serving visitors seeking outdoor recreation while preserving natural habitats alongside historical elements reflective of regional heritage.
Located just minutes north of Athens and Gwinnett County off I-85, Highland Walk offers 18 holes of great value golf.
