WHITE POINT STATE PARK
White Point State Park is a coastal haven with stunning ocean views, rocky shores and tide pools. It features hiking trails, picnic areas and an educational nature center. The park also has historical significance as it was once home to a military fort during World War II. Visitors can enjoy bird watching or explore the remnants of old mineral springs spa resort on site.
Located in San Pedro, California, the park was originally a military reservation during World War II. It housed two 16-inch naval guns for coastal defense until it was decommissioned after the war.
In 1973, Los Angeles City acquired this land and developed it into a public recreational area with nature trails and picnic areas. The site also includes White Point Nature Preserve which is home to diverse wildlife species.
The preserve suffered damage from an earthquake in 1933 but has since been restored by community efforts led by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy.
