History of the Area
DeGray Lake is a reservoir located in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains in Arkansas. Created by damming the Caddo River, its construction was completed by 1972 under U.S. Army Corps of Engineers supervision for flood control, hydropower production, and recreation.

Prior to becoming a park area with recreational facilities known as DeGray Lake Resort State Park established around it, much of this land had varied uses including timber harvesting and agriculture due to fertile soil along riverbanks.

Ownership before federal development belonged primarily to private individuals who used these lands according to local economic needs which included farming practices typical for rural communities across southern United States regions during that era.
