After three miles of driving down a forest road off SR65 we found the gate closed. Disappointing. There needed to be a sign out at the hard road.

March 29 Ghostly by Sissy
I walked back to the cemetery by myself (I thought)- family stayed back at the car. I wanted to pay my respects BUT never made it to the cemetery itself. After crossing the little creek, I was not alone. I felt someone with me. So, after looking around and finding no one there, I ran (something I do not do) back to the car and was more than ready to go. It was great !

Just visited Fort Gasden State Park on Saturday Aug. 18,2012 this park is so run down I was very disappointed. Someone needs to put a lot of pride in that place...very sad.
I lived there all my life and NEVER was taught the history of this place...I cannot imagine why not...Makes me sick that I missed this.l
March 25 Lost treaure by Bobbie
A hauntingly beautiful place. Hard to find but worth the trouble. If you make to Fort Gadsden go on the trail behind where the arsonal once stood to visit the sunken gravesites of the 270 souls who lost their lives the tragic day the arsonal was blown up. Well worth the search.
November 19 More than just a park
Spending 3 hours at the park in the company of the park volunteer has been one of the treasured memories of this trip. There is so much history to learn. Yet another example of the way plantation owners murered slaves. Hard to believe one of our Presidents ordered the act.
