Many folks come here to swim, but the park is more than a great swimming hole. Beautiful scenery and colorful history await, just a short drive from San Antonio and Austin.

With four miles of river frontage, the Guadalupe River takes center stage at the park. Step away from the river to find the more peaceful areas.

On the river, you can swim, fish, tube and canoe. While on land, you can camp, hike, ride mountain bikes or horses, picnic, geocache, and bird watch.

Swimming
1. Guadalupe River State Park offers a designated swimming area in the river.
2. The park's four miles of river frontage are perfect for casual swimmers and families.
3. Swimming is allowed throughout most parts of the Guadalupe River within the state park boundaries.
4. There are no lifeguards on duty, so visitors swim at their own risk.
5. Tubing down certain sections of the river provides an alternative to traditional swimming activities.
6. The water depth varies across different areas, making it suitable for both adults and children.
7. Picnic tables near by allow you to enjoy meals while taking breaks from swimming.
8. Swimming conditions can change with weather patterns; always check current conditions before entering water.
Canoeing
Kayak or canoe the Guadalupe River. When the water levels are good there are several options for paddling trips. The park is also the starting point for the 5-mile Guadalupe River State Park Paddling Trail.
Fishing
Anglers can enjoy fishing in the clear flowing water, home to species like largemouth bass and catfish. The river is also stocked with rainbow trout during winter months. Fishing gear rentals are available on-site for convenience. A valid Texas freshwater fishing license is required before casting a line.

Picnicking
Guadalupe River State Park offers picnic tables, grills and a scenic view of the river for picnicking. No reservations required.
Trails
Explore 13 miles of hike and bike trails. Trails range from the 2.86-mile Painted Bunting Trail to the 0.3 Mile River Overlook Trail, which leads you to a scenic overlook of the river.

Some park trails are open to horseback riders but we do not offer equestrian camping.
Bicycling
Biking enthusiasts can enjoy 5 miles of multi-use trails. However, caution is advised due to the uneven terrain.

Mountain biking is allowed but it's important to stay alert for hikers and horseback riders sharing the paths.

The park offers a variety of trail difficulties, from easy flat routes to challenging rocky inclines requiring skillful maneuvering.

While cycling through this area, be aware that wildlife encounters are possible; always maintain safe distances.

Remember: helmets are strongly recommended for safety reasons when taking part in any bicycling activities within these grounds.

Riders should carry water as Texas heat can become intense quickly - dehydration poses serious health risks during strenuous activity.

Lastly, respect nature by sticking only on designated bike trails - off-trail riding damages fragile ecosystems here.
Birding
Birdwatchers can spot a variety of species including the Golden-cheeked Warbler and Black-capped Vireo. The park is home to over 160 bird species, offering ample opportunities for sightings. Birding trails are available with interpretive signs about local wildlife along them. Raptors such as Red-tailed Hawks and American Kestrels are commonly seen soaring above the park's skies.

Area Attractions
Just 30 miles away, San Antonio offers history, nature, museums, shopping and more.

Visit Boerne and New Braunfels for a taste of the area's German heritage.
