OWL''S HEAD STATE PARK
Owls Head Lighthouse, located atop the head of the southern side of the entrance to Rockland Harbor, is another scenic lighthouse accessible from Owls Head Light State Park. The structure, light keeper's house and the immediate surrounding grounds remain U.S. Coast Guard property.
Nonetheless, visitors can park at the parking lot, enjoy the picnic grove and walk to either the small rocky beach, with its views of Rockland, or near the lighthouse grounds and the lighthouse on the bluff above. A small, old cemetery also is located on the state park land.
The park offers a variety of boating options for visitors. There is an accessible boat launch area where you can set off in your own vessel to explore the surrounding waters. Kayaking and canoeing are popular activities, with plenty of scenic routes available around the coastline. Fishing boats also frequent these waters due to its rich marine life including lobsters and various species of fish.
Anglers can enjoy saltwater fishing off the rocky coastline, targeting species like striped bass and bluefish. Freshwater enthusiasts may find brook trout in nearby streams.
