Some of the best swimming in the White Mountain region can be found in 140-acre White Lake State Park in Tamworth. The park lies along the shore of White Lake, which is an example of a typical glacial lake. During the Ice Age, glacial ice was buried beneath glacial till or debris. When the ice melted, a depression was created which gradually filled with water. Guests are welcome to enjoy a leisurely walk around the lake on a well-maintained foot path while looking for loons or signs of beaver activity, or to try their hand at the good trout fishing the lake provides.

Admission is $3 for adults; $1 for children ages 6-11; children ages 5 and under and NH residents age 65 and over are admitted free.

Picnicking
White Lake State Park offers picnic tables and grills, with beautiful lake views. No alcohol is allowed in the park.
Bicycling
Biking enthusiasts can explore a variety of trails, suitable for different skill levels. Be aware that some paths are challenging.

The park's terrain varies from flat to hilly areas, providing diverse biking experiences. Stay vigilant on uneven surfaces.

A popular option is the 2-mile trail around the lake; however, it requires careful navigation due to its narrowness and foot traffic.

Mountain bikers might prefer off-road tracks in forested sections but should be cautious about potential wildlife encounters or hidden obstacles under foliage.

Remember always wear helmets while riding as safety precautions against unexpected falls or collisions with other cyclists or pedestrians on shared pathways.

For those seeking leisurely rides amidst nature's beauty rather than adrenaline rush will find plenty options here too - just remember not all routes allow bikes!

Lastly, respect posted signs regarding bike access restrictions - these help protect sensitive habitats within this beautiful natural area.
Birding
The park offers diverse birding opportunities with species like loons, herons and warblers. Birdwatchers can explore trails around the lake or rent a canoe for water-based observation. During migration seasons, rare birds often stop by this location.

Visitor Comments, Memories and Reviews
August 2 one of the greatest lake
park review stars; one to five my wife and our 3 kids camped here for 3 nights in summer of 2011. The white lake was so cleaned and warm, a perfect place for kids to swimm and watch the sun sets/rises over the mountains. The boat rental clerk, a w/m in the 60s, is very cocky and restrictive by the park rules. My wife and 3 kids were not allowed to rent a row boat for 4-adults as we were allowed in other parks. Instead, we had to rent a giant doubled-roar aluminum boat that exhausted most of our energy. People here seem to be very conservative and naive. The camps are full of rowdy people on the weekend. The camp is very close to Route 16 that you can hear cars passing by all night long.
