MATAPEAKE STATE PARK

Matapeake State Park is a public recreation area located on the Chesapeake Bay's western shore in Queen Anne's County, Maryland. While not one of Maryland's largest state parks, it offers visitors scenic views and access to the bay with its beachfront setting.

The park features a clubhouse that can be rented for events, picnic areas for day use, trails through wooded terrain ideal for hiking or nature walks, and fishing opportunities along its shoreline. A notable feature is the Matapeake Fishing Pier and Ramp which provides anglers access to prime fishing spots.

Opened as a state-owned facility in 1993 after being transferred from federal ownership under surplus property regulations following World War II usage by military services; this site has since served both locals and tourists seeking outdoor activities near Stevensville. The dog-friendly park also includes an off-leash beach section specifically designated for pet owners wishing to enjoy time at the water with their canine companions.

Fishing

Located on Kent Island, it offers fishing opportunities from its pier. Anglers can catch Striped Bass and White Perch. Other species include Bluefish, Spot Fish, Croaker and Catfish. Fishing is available year-round with a valid license.

June 29 great for the kids by pier pops

At the beach the calm and warm water is a delight for younger kids (and their tired parents) and an excellent fishing pier is right next door; relatively clean bathrooms are located at each location and their is a lovely shaded picnic area next to the pier area with tables and grills.

September 3 Wonderful Place for a Wedding

Matapeake is one of those hidden landmarks. We came upon Matapeake when my daughter was getting married. We quickly booked the location and her wedding was one of the most beautiful spots. Our guests could not stop talking about how lovely the view was. The staff was also very helpful and efficent. Thank you!
