GALLAND SCHOOL STATE PARK PRESERVE
GALLAND SCHOOL STATE PARK PRESERVE
Galland School State Park Preserve is a historical site located in Lee County, Iowa. It spans approximately 6 acres and showcases the remains of one of Iowa's earliest educational institutions-the Galland School-established by Dr. Isaac Galland in the 1830s.
Opened to the public as a state park preserve on August 25, 1961, this area commemorates its significance with an original schoolhouse replica built-in 1949 near where Dr. Gallard had his log cabin home and first taught Native American children alongside European settlers' offspring.
Visitors can explore interpretive displays detailing early education methods and local history while enjoying scenic views along the Mississippi River bluffs nearby-a tranquil setting for picnicking.
