LA CYGNE STATE FISHING LAKE AND WILDLIFE AREA
LA CYGNE STATE FISHING LAKE AND WILDLIFE AREA
Acquisition: A 30-year lease was signed on 23 June 1978 between KCP&L, KG&E, and Kansas Fish and Game Commission (now Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks).

Area Description: La Cygne Lake is a 2,600-acre cooling reservoir for a coal-fired generating plant owned by Kansas City Power and Light, with 2,000 acres of the watershed comprising the wildlife area. The area is mostly wooded uplands, with some grass meadows and crop fields.

The wildlife area has excellent opportunities for deer, wild turkey, and squirrel hunting. Quail and rabbit hunting can be good at times. Waterfowl hunting can be good on the lake, and excellent on the warm-water discharge when severe weather congregates birds. Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks maintains one boat ramp in the warm-water discharge area of the lake, and one boat ramp at the north end of the lake for accessing the main body of the lake.
