This 64-acre Reservoir inside the city limits of Billings is a great place to swim, boat, paddleboard, fish, picnic, birdwatch or stroll on the 1.4 mile hiking/nature trail.

You can stretch your legs on a walk around the lake or stop by the south shore to fish from Roger's Pier.

Note The FWP Region 5 Headquarters Interpretive area is temporarily closed for renovation.

Non-motorized boating only is allowed. Alcohol is prohibited in the park.

There is a playground, two shelters - one shelter is reservable for social events.

A special feature of Lake Elmo is its Dog Park. The 200-square-foot fenced in area includes a water area and is located on the west side of the lake. Each visitor is allowed a maximum of two dogs in this special area. Dogs must be 4 months or older. Dogs must be on a leash in all other areas of Lake Elmo State Park.

The park is 123 acres in size and at an elevation of 3,199 feet.

Swimming
1. Lake Elmo State Park offers a designated swimming area for visitors.
2. Lifeguards are not provided, so swimmers swim at their own risk.
3. Swimming is permitted during park hours from dawn to dusk.
4. The lake's water quality is regularly tested and maintained by the state department of health.
5. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult while swimming in the lake area.

Boating
The park offers a variety of boating options for visitors. Non-motorized watercraft such as canoes, kayaks and paddleboards are allowed on the lake. There is also an area designated specifically for radio-controlled boats. However, motorboats or other types of powered watercraft are not permitted in order to maintain tranquility within the park.
Fishing
Enjoy fishing in a 64-acre reservoir, home to largemouth bass, yellow perch and black crappie. A wheelchair-accessible dock is available.

Picnicking
Lake Elmo State Park offers picnic tables, grills and shelters for picnicking. It also has a designated swimming area.
Bicycling
Biking enthusiasts can enjoy the 1.4-mile trail circling around a serene lake, perfect for family rides or solo trips.

While biking is allowed on paved paths and trails, off-road cycling isn't permitted to protect natural habitats.

Be cautious as some areas may be crowded with pedestrians; always maintain safe speeds and respect other park users.

The terrain is relatively flat which makes it suitable for bikers of all skill levels but helmets are strongly recommended.

Remember that wildlife sightings are common so stay alert while riding especially during dawn and dusk hours.

Ensure your bike has proper lighting if you plan to ride after sunset since visibility reduces significantly at night.
Birding
Birdwatchers can enjoy spotting a variety of species, including waterfowl and songbirds. The park's diverse habitats attract numerous bird types throughout the year. Visitors may also participate in guided birding tours or use available viewing platforms for better sightings.
