A true gem - The fact that you have to walk with all your stuff the half mile to the beach from the ferry dock, keeps the crowd down. But it is so worth it! We have been there twice in the last month even though it is a three hour drive to get there.

Great Trails and scenery - I spent last Wednesday at the park. Walking to the top of the summit and also down to some of the falls. The scenery is great but there are lots of snakes. We saw at least 15 during the day. The rock steps are the best, the people that did all of the amazing rockwork should have a plaque in their honor. Great park but bring your good hiking boots.. Its quiet the climb to the top.
- I think I can also see Mt Jefferson from US 421 near Boone, can anyone confirm?

best ever - everytime we go we find something new to do. Fishing off pier, camping in woods, hiking, now for some gold panning next trip. then the atvs. peaceful untouched forest, GREAT place to go.

SETS THE BAR - As a large family of children, grand-children and great-grand-children, using several campsites when we tent camp, this is what we compare the other state sites to.

Great Get Away - I stayed in Badin Lake Campground. I had a very nice site, some were too open and too close to other sites for my liking. I biked to the other campgrounds and they were very nice too. Unpaved roads could be a nuisance with dust. The campground host checking registration around 10:30 at night was disturbing, but he was a nice guy. Daylight hours are far more appropriate.

bear island warriors - mostly in our late fifties now the bear island warriors canoe anually loaded with gear and grub in search of sun, fun and the ever dillectable red fish. no electronics,no time pieces, and no women...sleep when you want, eat when you want, fish when you want...make music at night and watch the stars...as shakespere put it...balm for the hurt mind...nothing like the bear to put you back in perspective
