Witness the awe and power of this natural phenomenon, known to the locals as Thors Well. This massive hole embedded in the porous volcanic rock near the coast of central Oregon swells with sea water during high tides and drains below with immense speed. Formed over hundreds of years, this dangerous yet beautiful spectacle shows off the Pacific Oceans never-ending ability carve and shape the land.

Great fishing and camping - Camp Grounds well maintained. Fishing was great for cat fish and Crappie. Need to be careful of the snakes and pay attention. Fishing good from the bank and great from a boat.
Do Not stay in Teepee - We had a rattlesnake crawl into the we were staying in and curl up next to the twin mattress. The Teepees are not secured at the bottom. We had lizards and snakes in our Teepee. Not worth the cost. Ranger still has not called us back about the rattlesnake. We elected to get a hotel instead.
Got Stuck here in 1983 - Stopped my bicycle tour on the most beautiful heavenly day, only to be deluged by a storm the next three days until I ran out of food and scurried up to Yachats. Still, it is in my heart.
Diasappointed - We are very disappointed that Ainsworth must now be reserved ahead of time.
We have visited several times each year on the spur of the moment which is now not possible anymore.
Shame on you for making us schedule our lives!
very clean park, - We stayed here on our way to Wallowa State park. Had a few bugs, but not too bad,, even got to see a fountain, actually it was a broken water pipe, fixed in a very short time, just for sprinklers, Most of the sites were easy to get into, of course some were harder, but that is to be expected. will stay again if over that way.
Public Telephone Inoperative - June 30, 2015: Do not waste your money on the public telephone at the Rest Area: 541 923-9730. It still has the old Qwest logo, but they are now owned by Century Link. No service, no dial tone, no change return. No reply yet from Century Link.
- All the hikes are relatively short and easy to hike, except for the Carroll Rim hike, which is steeper and more brutal although short. The Leaf Hill hike also seemed kind of boring/uneventful. The Red Hill hike is enjoyable, offering spectacular views.
Great place to ride! - The Forks is a great place to horseback ride. The trails are nice with some sun and some shade. Enjoy my rides alot there. Trails could be marked a little bit better, but otherwise, kudos to all who worked so hard creating the trail system!!!
Bring ear plugs; watch the sun sets. - Sited between I-84 and the Columbia River, we were pleasantly surprised at how little freeway noise there is after dark. Bring ear plugs if you do not like to hear the occasional train. You easily see barges and train traffic on both sides of gorge. Wonderful sunsets on the volcanic cliffs in Washington. Most sites are shady, and the bathrooms are immaculate.
